I bought a State Bicycle 6061 Black Label All-Road in 2021. It’s been a good bike but I was never too fond of the components. I could never quite get the shifting adjusted properly and I didn’t like the action of the brifters.
Over the summer, SRAM released a update to their Apex XPLR components and there were some good sales on the older groupset. Since I really like the SRAM Rival XPLR on my gravel bike, I purchased an Apex groupset for the 6061.
I had to buy a few tools to do the job as I’d never installed or bled hydraulic brakes. The only frustration was that the bike was speced as having a BSA threaded bottom bracket but instead had a BB86 which is press fit, so I had to get my local bike shop to help me out with that.
I love the results. The shifts are smooth, the brakes are great and it’s a hoot to ride. Plus, it was really fun project.
