As someone who takes the train to DC from time to time, the construction of a new rail bridge across the Potomac River is great news. Amtrak is a fairly convenient way to get to DC but it is not reliable. Last time I took the train, I had a 7 hour delay on the way back. That was due to equipment problems, not the bridge, but it is typically a slow go once you get up to the Potomac and anything that will make the trip quicker and more reliable is welcome.

It’s always good to have more options. We’ve got three trips a day from CVS to WAS. I’ve been on all of them at one time or another and they always seem crowded. It would be great to have an earlier trip but that might not be possible since the train leaves Roanoke at 0600 already and I don’t think there is another place on the line from here to the southwest that it could stay overnight.

Anyway, it seems that the investment in better rail infrastructure for Virginia will pay off over the long term.
