The Lindy Effect is the idea that something lasts about as long as it has already. I first heard about it in a blog post by Matt Rickard and it makes a lot of sense to me.

Things that reach an equilibrium state tend to stay in that state. Plenty of physical things follow this sort of pattern and it makes sense that it applies to things that humans construct as well.

It’s nice to have a name for this phenomenon.
